How to Craft Wooden Planks in Minecraft

To craft wooden planks in Minecraft you need one log. Open the inventory 2×2, drop the log in any square, and four matching planks come out on the right. Below are the items, the recipe, and where that log comes from.

Punch a tree

Punch an oak until a log drops, or speed it up with an axe. Birch, spruce, jungle, acacia, dark oak, mangrove, cherry, and crimson or warped stems each turn into their own planks with the same one-to-four craft. A stripped log or a wood block with bark on all six sides also yields four.

One log in any square

Open the inventory. The 2×2 grid sits in the top-right of that screen. Put one oak log in any of the four squares. Four oak planks appear on the right; take them. A Crafting Table accepts that same single log.

Four planks, then a table

Those four planks fill the same 2×2 and become a Crafting Table. Two planks stacked in a column make four sticks. Place leftover planks as floor or walls; an axe breaks them and they drop.
